Day 11

Day 11 at Woking High School is our nationally acclaimed innovative approach to enhancing the school curriculum.

The programme enhances the curriculum by allowing us to incorporate a wide range of events and initiatives that boost students' academic progress and promote personal development and well being. The scheduling of off-site visits, outside speakers and extended activities on Day 11 also means students are not missing vital curriculum time on the ten days of their allocated timetable.

A wide range of activities comprise the Day 11 programme:

  • Off-site visits complement and boost student learning e.g. Canterbury, Dry slope skiing, a visit to Warner Bros. Harry Potter studio tour and  Battle Abbey
  • Opportunities to learn from expert professionals visiting the school e.g. Magistrates to help with preparation for the mock trial event, 6th form students supporting within MFL lessons and Andy Biggs, the author, helping Year 8 students in English
  • Competitions and team building activities promote collaboration amongst students and contribute towards the development of the Woking High School House system.
  • Themed days provide students with a focus upon key areas of their academic and personal development such as health, sex education, financial education, numeracy, cultural awareness, technology and learning about British values.
  • Work related learning and student preparation for life beyond Woking High School are boosted by Young Enterprise challenges and AS level taster sessions
  • Individual subject areas are able to provide a strong academic focus at Key Stage Four with time allocated to coursework, Controlled Assessment and exam booster classes.
  • At the other end of the scale students can try their hand at less conventional activities that they are unlikely to otherwise experience such as golf, African drumming, learning basic first aid or working with an artist in residence.

Overall Day 11 enhances our curriculum, enriches students' lives and promotes personal development and academic success.

"The standard of education, the memorable school visits and the dedication of all staff has been astonishing." Year 11 parent
